AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Engineering Traffic Analyst Intern to join our Edison, New Jersey office. While this role will report officially to the Edison, NJ office, this role will be situated with the client, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) at the client site in Trenton, NJ. AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering, and project management consultancies. AtkinsRéalis has been providing infrastructure planning, engineering, construction, environmental consulting, urban planning, architecture, and program management services to public and private clients across the United States for more than 50 years. Our Internship Program, Explore, is designed for college students pursuing a degree in a STEM field and provides opportunities to learn what it’s like to work in a professional environment and apply what’s learned in class to the real-world challenges we face every day.

  • Support the development and implementation of technologies and strategies to enhance traffic signal system performance and road user safety while addressing regional and statewide mobility goals.
  • Conduct research, data collection, and analysis related to traffic flow and mobility patterns using tools such as travel demand modeling and GIS.
  • Prepare reports, forecasts, and technical documents to support transportation studies and guide project decision-making.
  • Assist in the development of dashboards, databases, and other reporting tools.
  • Leverage experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and workflow automation to improve operational efficiency, proactivity, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, communities, and private sector clients, working to ensure project outcomes address the needs of diverse populations.
  • Analyze traffic operations, congestion management strategies, and safety improvement measures, providing practical recommendations to enhance the efficiency and safety of transportation networks.
  • Collaborate with environmental specialists, urban planners, and other professionals to integrate transportation systems with broader land use and environmental planning objectives.
  • No experience is generally required if accepted into an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field.
  • Data analysis from a transportation and traffic management perspective.
  • Progress towards BS or MS in civil engineering or data analysis.
  • Proficiency with systems including PowerBI (strong understanding), VISSIM, Synchro, GIS, and/or Auto-CAD.
  • E.I. or E.I.T. (preferred).
