Job Summary: Provide engineering and technical support associated with evaluation, development, adoption and implementation of standards/specifications and materials associated with the construction and operation of CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric (CEHE) systems. Develop and revise standards for the construction of CenterPoint distribution facilities and specifications for material sourcing.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university.
  • Requires a minimum two (2) years of experience in a technical or engineering role for an electric distribution utility. The two (2) years are required over and above the education requirement stated above.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise standards, specifications and design criteria to be used by CEHE utilizing MicroStation CAD software.
  • Ensure design adherence to applicable internal standards and procedures, and ensure compliance with external code requirements (NESC, ANSI, ASTM, IEEE, ERCOT, NERC, etc.).
  • Develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems and components.
  • Review and approve new material offerings from prospective manufacturers to be used on the CEHE system.
  • Review and evaluate existing and new technology, engineering methods and operating philosophies for potential system improvement.
  • Produce written and oral technical reports to document analysis results and engineering recommendations.
