The Engineering Technologist II position is second level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. The Engineering Technologist II applies technical expertise to solve more complex problems and management skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with general supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist II position are expected to develop deeper technical skills and the ability to work with an increasing degree of independence.

Requirements

  • Either Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology with no experience, or 2+ years of experience with Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 4+ years of equivalent experience without a degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the utility industry, specifically Transmission Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and accurately complete in a timely manner.
  • Proficient utilizing Maximo to generate Transmission work order documents.
  • Proficient with input of attribute data for Asset Automation into Maximo
  • Competent with data retrieval related to Transmission assets in Duke's GIS system
  • Proficient entering Compatible Units in Transmission Integration Manager to generate material estimates
  • Proficient preparing SPANS requests for Transmission assets

Responsibilities

  • Applies technical expertise in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies.
  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
