About The Position

The Role: Entegris is currently seeking an Engineering Technician to join our Membrane R&D team, based in our Bedford, MA facility. In this role, you will support R&D and process engineering activities through independent execution of moderately complex laboratory and pilot‑scale tasks. This role applies substantial technical knowledge and practical experience to operate equipment, execute experiments, troubleshoot issues, and support membrane development and surface‑modification processes.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (2‑year) in a science or engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, process engineering, or R&D environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working safely with hazardous and corrosive chemicals, including proper handling, storage, and waste disposal.
  • Proven ability to execute assigned tasks independently with minimal daily supervision once trained.
  • Strong attention to detail with a systematic approach to work; demonstrated ability to maintain accurate, thorough, and well‑organized records.
  • Ability to generate reliable, high‑quality data that can be confidently used by engineers and project teams for decision‑making.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to proactively communicate work status, issues, and observations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and related tools.
  • Willingness and ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting surface modification process development, including experimental execution, process optimization, and scaleup activities.
  • Handson experience with membrane characterization techniques, including performance testing, data interpretation, and sample handling.
  • Familiarity with SAP for material management and/or ETQ or similar quality documentation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to improve procedures, equipment reliability, safety, or operational efficiency, and to contribute practical recommendations.
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced R&D environment.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, analytical laboratory, and EH&S functions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate R&D, pilot and Mfg scale surface‑modification equipment to support membrane development activities.
  • Perform membrane characterization and performance testing according to defined procedures.
  • Troubleshoot routine process and equipment issues; resolve independently when appropriate and escalate complex issues with clear technical context.
  • Support engineers and scientists in the execution of Design of Experiments (DoE), including experimental setup, adherence to test plans, accurate data collection and documentation.
  • Assist with installation, start‑up, and commissioning of new laboratory or pilot‑scale equipment following established protocols.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and basic maintenance to ensure reliable operation.
  • Collect, prepare, label, and submit samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper handling and traceability.
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for commonly performed tasks.
  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with Entegris quality systems, safety standards, and EH&S requirements.
  • Participate in audits, safety reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
  • Work effectively with cross‑functional teams including New Product Development/Introduction (NPD/NPI), Manufacturing, Analytical Laboratory, Quality, and EH&S.
  • Order chemicals, consumables, and materials from warehouse or approved suppliers and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Package, label, and ship materials or samples in accordance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and work environment; proactively identify safety or housekeeping issues.
