About The Position

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for an Associate or Experienced Engineering Technician (Level 2 or 3) to join our team at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The selected candidate will be supporting the Air Force Research Lab in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities using ground-based telescopes. Starfire Optical Range is a world class research facility with recognized achievements in adaptive optics, enabled by the quality, enthusiasm, and dedication of our entire team. Our team consists of engineers and technicians in all disciplines required to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, laser systems to achieve research objectives. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in engineering technician, construction or facilities maintenance disciplines
  • 2+ years of experience working with powered hand tools or equipment
  • Willing to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends
  • This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience operating complex computer-based analysis or control systems
  • Experience with high power lasers
  • Experience with optical alignment techniques
  • Experience with electronics/electrical or mechanical systems

Responsibilities

  • Assists engineers and senior technicians with efforts such as optical alignment
  • Serve as a crew member for tests, being trained in optics and lasers, telescope operator, camera operator, or atmospheric operator
  • Participates in test design and performs routine procurement, fabrication and assembly of components, test fixtures and test systems
  • Maintains labs to Air Force standards for Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL), HAZMAT, ESD, property, and equipment maintenance
  • Facilitates systems integration, fabrication and modification; supports system pre-test setup, integration, checkout, and post-test tear-down
  • Troubleshoots and recommends resolution of basic laboratory and test-related problems
