About The Position

The Engineering Technician I position involves the practical application of engineering skills to perform engineering activities in the following fields: civil, mechanical, or electrical as assigned by the NTEC Facility and Operations Support Department located at the NASA/White Sands Test Facility site. This position is located at the NASA/White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces NM. To be considered, applicants must be currently enrolled at a college/university at the junior or senior level. This position will be temporary for the summer months with the potential of working the Fall semester if work is available. This position is considered an intern position.

Requirements

  • Must be working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering; as applicable.
  • Pre-employment drug test
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must pass a federal background investigation, general clearance.
  • If applicable to the specific job assignment, must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination as determined by the NSASA White Sands Test Facility and the company for the job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Apply practical civil engineering skills for: Site work which may include underground utilities, drainage structures, roadways, parking areas, retaining walls, foundations, and slabs.
  • Structural design work (concrete, steel, timber).
  • Architectural design (interior wall systems, insulation systems, ceiling, flooring, interior/exterior coatings, roofing systems; analysis, structural modifications to existing systems).
  • Survey (ArcGIS support).
  • Provide support, as required by Senior Design Engineers, to include gathering of information to develop requirement documents, plans and specifications, material take-offs/estimate, field verification, and coordination with techs in the field.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the Facilities Department.
  • Must be working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil
  • Apply practical mechanical engineering skills for: Site work which may include underground utilities, compressors, mechanical piping, HVAC systems, (chillers, boilers, water heaters, etc.) water quality and pressure vessel system packages.
  • Perform mechanical design and planning work for new construction, renovation, and improvement projects for a variety of real property facilities.
  • Engages Engineering Support personnel for CADD and GIS support during project development.
  • Provide support, as required by Senior Design Engineers, to include gathering of information to develop requirement documents, plans and specifications, material take-offs/estimates, field verification, as-builts, and coordination with techs in the field.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the Facilities Department.
  • Must be working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical
  • Apply practical electrical engineering skills for: General understanding and be able to learn electrical high voltage (>25KV), medium voltage (25KV-480V) to low voltage (480V-24V) AC power overhead distribution systems, emergency power systems, motor control, fire protection, lightning protection, arc flash, grounding, security systems, and fire alarm systems.
  • Engage with Engineering Support personnel for CADD and GIS support during project development.
  • Provide support, as required by Senior Design Engineers, to include gathering of information to develop requirement documents, plans and specifications, material take-offs/estimates, procurements, field verification, as-builts, and coordination with techs in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Facilities Department.
  • Accountable for: General knowledge and understanding of facility operations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Project is necessary.
  • Communicating effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Dressing appropriately for the position and not posing a safety or risk or hazard to the employee or others in accordance with the NSASA and company policies.
