About The Position

The Airborne Focus Factory of L3Harris Space and Airborne Systems located in Rochester, New York, is looking for an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to join the assembly and integration team. The ideal candidate will have experience in building optical systems, aligning them, and performing various optical tests to ensure performance and reliability, working with complex parts, assemblies for engineering prototypes, unique products, or low-volume manufacturing. These individuals will need to be able to operate optical manufacturing equipment and inspect the optics for surface quality and defects. Experience using LAS Opto-alignment systems is a must. Individuals should be familiar with various precision manufacturing techniques used to fabricate, integrate and validate optics. Additional activities may include performing optical testing such as MTF, EFL, Distortion and Concentricity. Members work in engineering drawings, manufacturing instructions, procedures, process specifications, schematics, sketches or verbal instructions.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Optics Certification/Degree.
  • Experience in an Electrical/Mechanical/Optical fabrication discipline.
  • Aerospace or Defense industry experience.
  • Experience with measurement and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform optical alignment work in manufacturing and/or prototyping environment.
  • Read engineering drawings/blueprints/schematics and detailed work instructions.
  • Maintain accurate records and manufacturing documentation.
  • Ability to work with fragile and precise assemblies.
  • Direct experience with one or more of the Following, Optical Interferometry, MTF testing, Lens bench testing, Resolution testing.
  • Must be proficient with measuring tools (verniers, calipers, scales, etc.)
  • Willingness to work overtime, shift work, weekends, holidays and some travel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
