About The Position

Copperweld is seeking a high-performance Engineering Technician to support our Weekend Shift operations. This position works in close collaboration with the Engineering team to provide process, design, upgrade, and project engineering support that drives strategic growth and continuous improvement across our operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field OR Associate’s degree in Applied Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in the electrical and controls field is required.
  • Solid understanding of electrical, mechanical, and machining processes and principles
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, databases, and system interfacing
  • Working knowledge of Siemens, Allen Bradley, and Control Techniques PLCs
  • Ability to read and interpret AutoCAD drawings
  • Proven ability to coordinate effectively with outside vendors, including purchase order input and follow-up
  • Ability to fabricate machine parts from drawings for equipment builds and modifications
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills across departments.
  • Strong project management skills and capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of engineering concepts for process and product improvements.
  • Research, evaluate, and define equipment needs to support plant operations and engineering projects.
  • Install, modify, and optimize control systems on new and existing equipment using PLC knowledge.
  • Assist with the design and specification of components and systems for equipment upgrades and improvements.
  • Maintain and update engineering drawings and documentation using AutoCAD.
  • Design and build electrical panels in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Recommend and support capital projects, including planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Provide mechanical and electrical support for Engineering-led process trials and product development.
  • Assist with the design, fabrication, procurement, and assembly of custom parts or equipment for engineering projects.
  • Perform equipment layouts, installations, alignments, and system integrations.
  • Travel as needed to evaluate equipment condition, performance, and capabilities.
  • Assist with the management of excess or spare equipment.
  • Participate in ongoing training to support evolving engineering technologies and processes.
  • Coordinate and oversee outside contractors for engineering-led projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
