About The Position

SAIC is seeking an Engineering Technician VI to support Boat Operations and Maintenance during test events in the open ocean for the US Navy Autonomous Systems. This effort will provide boat operation services during at-sea testing of an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), including mobilization, demobilization, boat operations, boat maintenance, logistics, test planning, and fabrication of test fixtures and components. This role is ONSITE in San Diego, CA. Must be local.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Minimum four (4) years of open-water boat operations experience.
  • Two (4) years of experience as a Deck Hand in rigging and deck equipment for deployment and retrieval in a maritime/water environment.
  • Able to obtain a Secret Clearance after start, active DoD SECRET clearance preferred.
  • Experience with advanced boat operations techniques and handling.
  • Able to work on boat in the open ocean for a minimum of 9 hours a day.
  • Familiar with general electronics equipment including multimeters and hand tools.
  • Experience with boat launch, recovery and trailering.
  • Must be able to work independently and with a team as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) years of demonstrated experience holding a boat coxswain or captain qualification from a military or civilian source operating jet drive and prop propulsion units.
  • Knowledge of crane and rigging operations, including rigging loads for lifts.
  • Certified Mercury Technician experience.
  • Cummins and Yanmar Diesel Engine Technician experience.
  • Maritime Institute 100 Ton Captains Course.
  • Hamilton Jet Configuration and Service experience.
  • Forklift certified
  • Familiar with MS Office products, to include Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Responsibilities

  • Perform boat operations efforts on inland or coastal waters.
  • Maintain a safe speed and course while supporting boat operations.
  • Monitor weather conditions and adjust course as necessary.
  • Ensure the vessel's safety equipment is in working order.
  • Communicate with other vessels via radio and other means during boat operations.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repair on diesel and outboard engines.
  • Carry out navigational tasks as required.
  • Able to work beyond an (9) hour workday as required.
  • Coordinating pre-deployment test briefs.
  • Conducting equipment and vessel checks during and after test evolutions.
  • Providing in support of UUV testing.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of boat failures.
  • Identifying and facilitating vendors to provide vessel maintenance.
  • Fabrication of test fixtures and deployment mechanisms.
  • Performing routine maintenance checks on project support vessels and equipment.
  • Deployment of UUVs and other project equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintenance and repair of various autonomous equipment and deployable vehicles.
