This position involves performing specialized high-level technical support and acting as a liaison with other parties for the Professional Engineer in the field. The role includes leading field crews and private contractors performing construction activities. The position currently works on-site only and does not sponsor applicants for work visas.

  • Act as the engineer's field representative for communication with the Construction Crew Foremen on a construction site.
  • Inspect and ensure site safety compliance.
  • Communicate/document any deviations discovered in plans, specifications, materials, methods, schedules, following the contract documents and MNDOT specifications to the Engineer.
  • Assist the Engineer with resolution of any issues that arise.
  • Perform paperwork and field documents on construction activities and quantities following Minnesota State Aid/MnDOT requirements.
  • Coordinate survey work with City Survey team.
  • Coordinate closely with other contractors on work which can affect adjacent businesses/property owners/project delivery.
  • Coordinate materials testing with contractors, MNDOT, and the City of Minneapolis Engineering Lab.
  • Perform contract administrative duties with tracking of contract management related items.
  • Prepare weekly reports using excel spreadsheets.
  • Perform basic surveying and calculations using a rod and level.
  • Perform ADA pedestrian ramp field inspections using ESRI software.
  • Measure and track material quantities using Item Record Account documentation.
  • Create change orders/supplemental agreements/subordinate funding agreements.
  • Enter and maintain records using modern software and record project as-builts.
  • Assign work to lower level staff, providing training and instruction as required.
  • Perform a variety of engineering technician work in the office regarding construction project design, cost estimation, calculations of cost, handling communications, completing forms, designing traffic control plans and documentation.
  • Eighteen months of post High School training in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent training in Civil Engineering Survey work.
  • Three years of related experience performing civil engineering and related technical work.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Considerable knowledge of Civil Engineering survey techniques and tools and technology used in this work.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to delegate work.
  • Good knowledge of Civil Engineering and related computer software packages.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Good writing skills and ability to produce reports.
  • Good knowledge of MnDOT Standards, Minnesota Pollution Agency rules and Federal ADA Standards.
