This Engineering Technician III is located in the Division 7 District II Office for Guilford County and is an advanced level position that will be responsible for the processing and review of driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments. This position will perform on-site inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments and subdivisions. Employee will conduct pre-construction meetings with requested parties. This position will perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters as it relates to road additions, driveway permits and encroachments. This position will meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person. This position will assist the Division as needed during emergencies and inclement weather. This position will also assist the District Engineer with other tasks as assigned. Additional Expectations: Must possess communication skills to provide telephone and on-site technical assistance to on-site inspectors, developers, contractors, engineers, and general public. The ability to review and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures. Ability to communicate well with the general public and co-workers. Possess knowledge of mathematical functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry is required. Knowledge in the use of surveying equipment, basic office equipment, drafting equipment, and computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Micro Station). Safety toe shoes will be required.
