About The Position

This position is accountable for preparing corridor, design and combined studies, and prepares contract plans and specifications for highway improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years ofengineering experience.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check.
  • Requires overtime as needed.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the engineering sections for corridor, design and combined location studies in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepares and recommends alternative designs for location studies.
  • Reviews location studies prepared by consultants and other agencies for completeness according to policy and procedures.
  • Assists with informational meetings, public hearings, and presentations to describe projects.
  • Ensures plans prepared are accurate, complete, and in compliance with design standards and specifications and depict the most cost-effective design.
  • Coordinates the activities of other sections with the bureau to ensure plans are completed in a time to meet prescribed dates.
  • Ensures all work is performed in a safe manner.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conductive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
