About The Position

This position is accountable for preparing corridor, design and combined studies, and prepares contract plans and specifications for highway improvement projects.

Requirements

Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years ofengineering experience.
Requires successful completion of a background check.
Requires overtime as needed.
Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Responsibilities

Prepares the engineering sections for corridor, design and combined location studies in an accurate and timely manner.
Prepares and recommends alternative designs for location studies.
Reviews location studies prepared by consultants and other agencies for completeness according to policy and procedures.
Assists with informational meetings, public hearings, and presentations to describe projects.
Ensures plans prepared are accurate, complete, and in compliance with design standards and specifications and depict the most cost-effective design.
Coordinates the activities of other sections with the bureau to ensure plans are completed in a time to meet prescribed dates.
Ensures all work is performed in a safe manner.
Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conductive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
