This position will serve as an Engineering Technician III in the Division 9 Traffic Operations Unit in Forsyth County. This position will be responsible for performing complex field inspections, data collection (traffic counts, surveys), and contract administration for traffic control devices, signs, and pavement markings. Duties include ensuring compliance with MUTCD and NCDOT standards, supporting field operations staff, writing reports, resolving issues, using specialized software (GIS, TEAAS), and communicating with the public and contractors. This position requires independent judgment and potential work in varied conditions, as well as conducting other traffic investigations as assigned. POS# 60020967. Additional Expectations: The selected applicant must have the ability to provide professional engineering skills and knowledge needed to perform investigations and evaluate requests for speed limit modifications, pavement marking modifications and safety studies. Must possess working knowledge of the MUTCD. Must have the ability to promote safety and safe working environments. Must have the ability to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, personnel, and the general public. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety-toed shoes required.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups.
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
