Employee in this position will serve as an Engineering Technician III in the Division 8 Utility Unit located in the Carthage Division 8 Office. The position will assist with utility inspections and will be responsible for all utility field relocations once agreements are authorized and completed. Duties include coordinating utility relocation schedules, completing daily dairies, and additional duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Division Utility Engineer. The person hired into this position should have the ability to apply engineering concepts to solve complex problems and be able to perform computer/iPad data entry. Must be able to work in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds and traverse rough terrain. Work may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety Toe Shoes required

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle
  • Safety Toe Shoes required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in performing inspection of utility relocation and/or construction as part of highway projects and/or utility encroachments
  • Experience in reading and interpreting highway construction plans and cross sections and/or utility relocations
  • Experience in communicating effectively with the general public, contractors, utility owners and other Department units
  • Experience in overseeing multiple projects simultaneously and completing assignments within specified time requirements
  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
