About the position

This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits, competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. The position will serve as an Engineering Technician II in the Wilmington District Office and will be primarily responsible for the processing, review, and approval of driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions. Will perform on-site inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments, and subdivisions. Conduct pre-construction meetings with applicants. Will perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters as it relates to road additions, driveway permits and encroachments. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoe footwear required.

Responsibilities

  • Process, review, and approve driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions.
  • Perform on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT specifications.
  • Conduct pre-construction meetings with applicants.
  • Perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, developers, public officials, and NCDOT personnel.
  • Review driveway permit and encroachment plans for compliance with NCDOT standards.
  • Write memos and reports conveying technical information and engineering concepts.

Requirements

  • Experience writing clear and concise technical documentation and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction and engineering plans.
  • Working knowledge of current engineering standards, policies, and procedures related to transportation.
  • Experience in customer service, adept at resolving issues and explaining engineering concepts.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite for various professional tasks.
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum and two years of progressive technician level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
