About The Position

OUC - The Reliable One, is presently seeking an Engineering Technician (Electric Distribution) to join the Electric & Water Delivery – Engineering division. We are looking for a detail‑oriented, analytical, and customer‑focused professional to support the planning and execution of electric distribution projects by preparing designs, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents. In this role, you will oversee capital projects from concept through completion, ensuring safe, reliable electric service for new and existing customers. You will analyze electrical plans for new developments, prepare permits, coordinate with multiple jurisdictions, and resolve field conflicts with contractors, customers, and government agencies. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical knowledge of OUC construction standards, NEC/NESC requirements, electric service design, and GIS mapping systems, along with experience reviewing plans, estimating project costs, and inspecting distribution infrastructure. This individual will be proficient with engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, PSERM, CC&B, ePets, ArcReader, and ARM360, and capable of performing electrical calculations including transformer sizing, voltage drop, and fault current. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to train new engineers, and the capacity to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and compliance with industry standards. The job purpose is to analyze future projects from a distribution electrical engineering perspective by preparing designs, plans, specifications, cost estimates for construction work, and documents, and to oversee and manage capital projects from start to finish providing electric service to new and existing customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or directly related engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university
  • No experience required
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong technical knowledge of OUC construction standards, NEC/NESC requirements, electric service design, and GIS mapping systems
  • Experience reviewing plans, estimating project costs, and inspecting distribution infrastructure
  • Proficient with engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, PSERM, CC&B, ePets, ArcReader, and ARM360
  • Capable of performing electrical calculations including transformer sizing, voltage drop, and fault current
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to train new engineers
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and compliance with industry standards
  • Working knowledge of OUC Construction Standards Manuals (Overhead and Underground)
  • Working knowledge of OUC Electric Service and Digital Meter Installation Manual
  • Working knowledge of NEC/NESC books
  • Working knowledge of OUC Engineering Manual
  • Working knowledge of Letter of Responsibility – Unique specification package provided to customers
  • Working knowledge of Process to obtain a meter installation
  • Working knowledge of Construction crew scheduling
  • Working knowledge of Limitations of construction crews abilities with regard to equipment/manpower
  • Familiarity with Civil, AutoCAD, and Technical Drawings
  • Familiarity with Riser Diagrams
  • Familiarity with GIS Maps

  • Familiarity with Estimate reports
  • Familiarity with Equipment (i.e. iPhone, Measuring wheel, company radio, hammer, wood stakes, spray paint)
  • Familiarity with Software Application (i.e. PSERM, CC&B, AutoCAD, ePets, Arc-Reader, ARM360)
  • Familiarity with Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws
  • Able to calculate amperage on both sides of meter for wiring/xfmr sizing, voltage drop, and fault current
  • Understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs, plans/specifications, and documents for Electric Distribution Projects
  • Complete cost estimates for Electric Distribution Projects
  • Manage Electrical Distribution projects from development stage through completion
  • Analyze Electrical Plans for new project developments (i.e. Commercial/Residential)
  • Review completed projects by comparing actual costs with the estimated costs and verify the accuracy of new infrastructure placed within OUC Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping system
  • Prepare permits and maintenance of traffic indexes for City of Orlando, Orange County, City of St. Cloud, Osceola County, Department of Transportation, and CSX Railroad
  • Resolve conflicts with multiple parties including OUC customers, contractors, governmental agencies, and internal employees
  • Inspect Distribution Infrastructure installed by private contractors and OUC contractors
  • Train new engineers on software and design guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned
