About The Position

Welty Energy, an affiliate of Welty, is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, substation engineering and construction oversight on transmission, substation and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV. Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, Welty Energy currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S. Welty Energy is looking to add an Engineering Technician - Distribution team member! As an Engineering Technician, you will be an integral member of the Electric Distribution engineering team. This role is remote with travel to client sites as required (10-15%) and applicants must be based in the US.

Requirements

Associate’s degree in drafting or equivalent technical program
3+ years of experience designing utility distribution design

Responsibilities

Provide design and CAD services on client projects
Represent the client and provide best-in-class service
Involved with consulting on select projects where your expertise and guidance is requested
Provide technical assistance to the Welty Project Management Team as requested
Prepare designs utilizing client standards based on input from engineers, manufacturers, client, etc.
Single line diagrams
AC & DC schematics
Physical designs
SCADA designs
Wiring diagrams
Verify projects are following all applicable client standards
Utilize client software to manage drawings checked out by Welty
Perform site visits when necessary
Consult on internal projects when requested by the PM, Portfolio Manager, or Executive Vice President
Perform Quality checks to ensure project quality and project completion before submitting project
Perform Electrical Calculations (Load ratings, Transformer Sizing, etc.)
Main contact for team questions and technical issues
Train new hires on software, engineering/construction processes, types of equipment, etc.

Coordinate and facilitate meetings regarding project reviews, status updates, concerns, etc.
Share knowledge and train oncoming Engineering Technicians
Establish trust and healthy rapport with client and contract engineer firms
Collaborate with Management Team to foster a productive and encouraging environment
Timesheet entries and expenses to be appropriately applied to corresponding projects and should be submitted weekly
