About The Position

The Building Automation Field Technician will support the plants’ Building Automation System and air handling/dust collections systems on an electrical and mechanical perspective. This includes basic pms, repair and troubleshooting of existing hardware and support equipment related to operation and includes the installation of new or upgraded devices or equipment.  This position reports the Director – Site Engineering while working with the Building Automation System Team in the day to day operations of building controls/air handling operations to support pharmaceutical manufacturing at the Seymour Manufacturing site. The Building Automation Field Technician will support the Seymour Manufacturing Site facility and related equipment and processes to support 24/7 operation of a production facility with 400 employees. This position has no direct P&L or budget responsibility, but is responsible for contributing on an individual level to department and site goals and budgets.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree, 2 year technical degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical discipline specific to HVAC with some automation experience preferred. Highly desired technical training, certification and specific OEM experience 
  • Minimum of 5 years' working or hands-on experience with air handling equipment, devices and controls in the field performing basic maintenance related activities that includes direct experience in building automation, building controls, enterprise systems, and control protocol implementation and systems integration Ex: Siemens, BacNet, or other similar BAS control systems or schemes.
  • Minimum of 3 years' working or hands-on experience in a maintenance/engineering department in a regulated environment
  • Understanding of mechanical equipment pertaining to chilled water systems, hot water systems, air handlers, heat exchangers, pumps, VAV’s and other various subsystems and terminal equipment.
  • Significant tasks also include basic scheduling, document preparation, inspections and testing, report generation and problem resolution
  • Experience with mid to small scale projects, facility engineering, HVAC and automated controls is required.
  • Ability to properly identify and apply control routines to equipment to be controlled (i.e. VAV, FCU, air conditioner, heat pump, unit heaters and etc.)
  • Experience with HVAC Control, BAS, Energy Management systems, electrical installation, construction practices processes, code compliance and documentation is required
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, mechanical and control drawings
  • Capable of implementing design specifications and various control strategies for new construction and renovation projects
  • Ability to read and interpret Scope of Work (SOW) documents
  • Execution of field work plans
  • Knowledge and experience with field related measurement tools, multi-meter, Air Data meter, anemometer, flow hood etc
  • Must exhibit basic communication and interpersonal skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to be flexible with work priorities and work effectively as part of a team
  • Experience working with subcontractors, vendors and/or OEMs is preferred
  • Must demonstrate a basic understanding of plant electrical distribution and utility systems and equipment such as ahus, compressors etc
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of computers, PLCs, VFDs and other control systems/devices or equipment is preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot and program VFDs/ similar devices or controllers is preferred

  • Ability to be flexible with work priorities and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must possess in depth working knowledge and understanding of computers, PLCs, VFDs and other machine control systems/devices or equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of machinery, equipment, and tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of facility related equipment and spaces.
  • Ability to identify and order parts needed to complete corrective and preventive maintenance activities in a timely manner.
  • Team player with a "can-do" attitude.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments with varying/conflicting priorities in a manner that meets the company's goals.
  • Ability to work off of ladders, scaffolding and aerial lifts.
  • Technical (engineering/maintenance) background, with "hands on" experience.

  • Ability to take direction from various sources for job completion in a customer service driven environment.
  • Traditional industrial work environment, with frequent walking to other areas of the facility, including production areas, loading docks, mechanical spaces, roofs, catwalks and warehouse spaces. 100%
  • Must be able to wear company designated protective equipment for extended periods of time, including respirators, CAL rated ARC flash gear etc. 10%
  • Must be able to stand and perform tasks or repairs for the entire work shift. 100%
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds or greater and using dollies or carts, hand trucks be able to move items weighing over 100 pounds. 100%
  • Must be able to operate man or personnel lifts for the purpose of required work activities. 25%
  • Must be able to work in hot and/or cold conditions for periods of time to complete assignments. 80%
  • Must be able to work in closed confined spaces as designated by the company as well as on roofs and on equipment as needed. 25%

Nice To Haves

  • Pharmaceutical experience or GMP experience is desired.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) desired.
  • Knowledge of SAP is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic to intermediate levels of wiring and terminations- high/low/control voltages on air handling related equipment and control devices supported by the BAS.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting of site BAS system, including support of system change control, access, and coordination with system contractors.
  • Intermediate level of troubleshooting abilities on all levels of control wiring
  • Basic equipment/device installations
  • Removal of legacy wiring/panels/boxes when assisting with air handling or dust collection improvements or upgrades/repairs
  • BAS- Building Automation System- install and route new wiring, devices and panels as directed
  • Execute PMs or system performance checks for related equipment including but not limited to: BAS control panels, typical air handler controls, chiller controls, exhaust fam controls, damper actuator controls, reheat valves and steam traps
  • Participate in drawing updates and provide updates as required when changes are made
  • Manage or attend to contractors for site project activities from project definition to work completion to ensure it meets current site standards
  • Work with the necessary team members and management to provide technical support in the daily needs and/or compliance of the existing system
  • Participate in the implementation phase of continuous improvement projects toward site or controls optimization as it relates to BAS/facility equipment
  • Development and production of equipment lists, points, lists for control systems integration work, controls installation or any combination thereof
  • Perform site walk-thru, to assess work requirements for control systems integration work, controls installation or any combination thereof 
  • Ability to effectively interact at all levels of an organization and effectively communicate with customers
  • Able to work independently and remotely to complete projects based on controls drawings, and other technical documents
  • As required – develop and deliver training on equipment operation or changes 
  • Support SOP and/or training documentation as it relates to equipment/BAS
  • Create or support Change Control documentation
  • Develop necessary PMs, test plans and supporting documentation for Capital Appropriations Requests
  • Participate in validation or qualification activities or exercises
  • Other duties as assigned or as business needs require
  • Flexibility of work hours and/or days along with the ability to work overtime as needed to support 24/7 plant operations
  • Complete work orders/pms as assigned in a timely manner.
  • Conduct inspections of equipment and the facility to identify and report issues or defects and proper reporting methods to supervision
  • Perform activities with established site and departmental goals of compliance and operation in mind
  • Ability to read and comprehend all instructions, including but not limited to, activity reports, work order documentation and Standard Operating Procedures
