About The Position

The Engineering Tech – Automation & Controls supports the development, build, and deployment of advanced automation systems used in manufacturing cells across the enterprise. This role works hands‑on with Automation Engineering to assemble, wire, configure, and test automated equipment, supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning, and ongoing system maintenance. The position blends practical electrical, controls, and fabrication skills with strong troubleshooting and technical collaboration capabilities.

Requirements

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting using Allen‑Bradley Studio 5000
  • HMI development and configuration using Allen‑Bradley FactoryTalk View
  • Practical electrical skills including:
  • Electrical layout and panel build
  • Electrical and mechanical drawing interpretation
  • Automation hardware experience:
  • Sensors, interlocks, safety devices, and field instrumentation
  • Device configuration and sensor swap/maintenance
  • Fabrication and multi‑craft skills:
  • Welding, drilling, mechanical assembly, and general installation
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience supporting industrial automation or manufacturing equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, controls, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in laboratory, shop, and factory environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence across global teams.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting multiple sites and shifting priorities.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support automation deployments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting advanced manufacturing or automated production cells.
  • Familiarity with safety systems and industrial standards.
  • Experience working in cross‑functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Python or other coding language experience

Responsibilities

  • Support the assembly, wiring, and integration of automated manufacturing cells in collaboration with Automation Engineering.
  • Execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for automation systems, supporting debugging, validation, and documentation of controls and equipment performance.
  • Configure, modify, and maintain PLC and HMI systems to support automation cell functionality and testing.
  • Perform hands‑on electrical layout, panel build, and field wiring, including sensors, interlocks, and safety devices.
  • Interpret electrical and mechanical drawings to support equipment build, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Support fabrication and mechanical assembly activities, including welding, drilling, general installation, and equipment integration.
  • Configure field devices, replace sensors, and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of automation hardware.
  • Assist with commissioning activities at manufacturing sites as required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to automation reliability, standardization, and performance.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all applicable safety and quality standards.
