About The Position

Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Full-time Temporary with Benefits The City of Moorhead is accepting applications for a Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship in the Engineering Department. The goal of the Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship is to provide knowledge and enhance career preparedness in the civil engineering technician field; by providing mentorship, training and classes with the goal to become certified by the Minnesota Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) and potentially progress to the Civil Engineering Technician I position with the City of Moorhead in the future. This position also promotes future advancement opportunities within the Engineering Department as years of experience and additional certification requirements are fulfilled for a Technician. Objective: Collaborate and learn with the Engineering Team on plan design, construction inspection, and survey field work. Build relationships and gain experience in multiple areas within the civil engineering field. Gain expertise by attending multiple training courses and certifications to become well-versed in civil engineering design, inspection, and surveying. Training courses and related travel are paid by the City. HOURS: Full-time with benefits. Monday through Friday 7:00am-3:30pm with overtime hours of approximately about 10 hours per week required during construction season. This position will work a combination of office and field work with the bulk of the construction season being spent in the field and in the winter in the office. Length of apprenticeship depends on pace of reaching learning objectives in one or up to two years. Requirements

  • High School Diploma OR GED
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary school coursework or diploma in engineering, construction, architecture, drafting, surveying or a related field.
  • Experience in design, construction, or construction inspection.
  • Completion of any advanced STEM classes.
  • Experience with computer aided drafting (CAD) software.
  • Education in career pathways related to engineering design, drafting, construction and/or technology.
