About The Position

Obsidian Solutions Group (OSG) is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Engineering Technician to support the production, finishing, and inspection of advanced manufactured parts at our Fredericksburg, VA facility. This role supports prototyping, small-batch manufacturing, and test & evaluation (T&E) activities that directly contribute to U.S. military and disaster response missions. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing team at a time of expansion. Requirements

  • Hands-on technical experience in advanced manufacturing methods (additive manufacturing, urethane casting, machining, or finishing).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings with GD&T.
  • Proficiency with CAD programs.
  • Familiarity with inspection tools; willingness to learn advanced manufacturing, testing, and inspection equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to follow procedures, maintain documentation, and support ISO 9001 processes.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills.
  • Comfortable with hands-on work in a production environment.

Nice To Haves

  • SolidWorks certification (CSWA, CSWP, or higher).
  • CNC machining or manual machining experience.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing (5S, kaizen, process improvement).
  • Background in R&D or prototyping environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Experience supporting test & evaluation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain additive manufacturing equipment (SLA, FDM, etc.) and related production tools.
  • Perform post-processing tasks: support removal, sanding, polishing, painting, and light assembly.
  • Assist with urethane casting operations, including mold prep, casting, and finishing.
  • Support small-batch production and prototype builds for R&D and customer delivery.
  • Conduct precision inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other hand tools.
  • Operate and support advanced metrology systems, including 3D scanners and CMM equipment.
  • Apply GD&T principles to verify compliance with technical drawings.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records aligned with ISO 9001 processes.
  • Use CAD to create or modify parts, fixtures, and tooling according to direction and/or independent design.
  • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process documentation.
  • Provide input on design for manufacturability (DFM) and part improvements.
  • Support test & evaluation tasks, including setup, data collection, and reporting.
  • Participate in facility organization and equipment setup as capabilities expand.
  • Assist with light facility improvement work (painting, workspace organization, etc.).
  • Follow 5S and lean manufacturing principles to maintain efficient workflows.
  • Identify and suggest improvements to reduce waste and enhance productivity.
