About The Position

Responsible for providing technical support of moderate complexity and the capability to understand and develop basic designs for transmission, distribution, industrial, and generating station protection systems and support facilities, including any related drawings, material requests, construction contracts, specifications and project documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field of study +4 years experience, Associate degree in a related field of study +6 years experience or high school diploma/GED +8 years experience required.

Responsibilities

• Creates engineering drawings to convey the electrical design of generation, transmission, distribution and industrial substations.
• Revises existing drawings as well as creating new drawings using available CAD software.
• Prepares purchase requisitions and material requests to acquire substation electrical equipment.
• Assists in the preparation of specifications to ensure that ordered equipment is manufactured in accordance with its intended use.
• Performs grounding tests and assists with the design calculations for new and existing ground grids.
• Creates RTU drawings and EMS database sheets.
• Acts as project leader on assigned projects attending meetings and monitoring project schedules to verify compliance with in service dates.
• Researches, investigates and evaluates new technological applications and materials to be used for the design of electrical substations including improvements to processes, safety and cost effectiveness.
• Works with office and field personnel to become more familiar with electrical equipment.
• Reviews and updates specifications, figures, and the standard material catalog.
• Participates in review meetings, assists team members, interfaces with vendors, routing, making corrections, and following the Standards Procedure.
• Maintains contact with vendors to keep abreast of new designs and technologies.
• Coordinates with unit members on designs and use of standards.
• Checks drawings for accuracy and standardization.
