About The Position

The role of the Senior Nuclear Mechanical Test Engineer at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding involves providing technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. This includes gathering, maintaining, formatting, compiling, and manipulating technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. The engineer will be responsible for producing engineering documentation, reports, and drawings, including flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics. Additionally, the position requires performing detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas and conducting preliminary analyses of data, particularly in areas such as trajectory adequacy and model dimensional consistency. The engineer will also make quantitative judgments concerning technical data and utilize personal computers for analysis and documentation development. This position specifically focuses on the 688-class and Virginia Class submarine availabilities and overhauls. The technician will assess nuclear mechanical work for its impact on Reactor Plant systems and will need to decipher mechanical drawings to determine safe work and testing isolations. Responsibilities also include preparing and executing testing, temporary system operations, and troubleshooting of temporary reactor plant systems and reactor plant mechanical systems. The engineer will guide junior assigned technicians in their duties, ensuring that all tasks are performed efficiently and safely. This role is critical in maintaining the high standards of safety and performance expected in the nuclear shipbuilding industry.
