About The Position

The Wausau Supply Company Engineering Technical Specialist - Coatings is the technical expert regarding coating materials, chemistry, and color. The Engineering Technical Specialist - Coatings is responsible for following and implementing best practices in the formulation process, working with suppliers to ensure product consistency, establishing quality control plans, and identifying process and product improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • High level of technical expertise with coatings, application processes, pigment materials, color evaluation, and formulation practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communications
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), ERP, and inventory systems
  • Bachelors or Technical Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Materials Science and 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Background and experience with ink or paint color formulation and evaluation, chemistry, and materials
  • Travel up to 20%
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Good color vision and manual dexterity
  • Ability to stand/bend/walk for extended periods of time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with X-Rite software and equipment preferred
  • Experience with NovaFlow Systems preferred
  • Experience with continuous improvement systems/processes preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise on paint properties to manufacturing and quality control to ensure product and process consistency and reliability
  • Provide technical expertise, direction, work instructions, and training to the WSC paint lab employees
  • Coordinate the technical relationship with suppliers to ensure consistency of coating materials
  • Maintain database accuracy and integrity of paint standards and formulas
  • Raw material qualification through standardized evaluation practices and non-conformance investigation
  • Coordinate with other departments to drive business process improvements as they relate to paint lab activities
  • Evaluate material properties as they relate to WSC manufacturing process through analysis and designed experiments
  • Provide technical expertise on the development and launch of new products to meet customer demands
  • Assist the quality control department in driving continuous improvement within the business unit
  • Perform paint lab tasks to support production needs
  • Perform product performance and application testing
  • Actively participates in proper safety procedures, processes, and complies with company protocols and policies
  • Encourages team effort and supportive attitudes
