About The Position

Bascom Hunter’s Power and Controls Division is seeking a Engineering Team Lead to drive the design, development, and sustainment of advanced aerospace and defense Environmental Control Systems. This role serves as a critical link between early-career engineers and senior management, combining hands-on technical expertise with team leadership and project oversight. The successful candidate will contribute to the design of Environmental Control Systems and components, such as Fans while ensuring projects meet technical compliance, program schedules, program budgets and manufacturing objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5–8 years of experience in Mechanical Design with focus on:    - Environmental Control systems (ECS)    - Vapor Cycle Systems (VCS)    - Fans, Receiver/filter/Dryers, Thermal Expansion Valves, Heat Exchangers    - System Conveyance and System Architecture
  • Hands-on experience developing Mechanical products
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards: MIL-STD-810.
  • Experience with requirements generation, management, and traceability throughout the hardware lifecycle.
  • Experience performing Mechanical stress analysis as part of design validation.
  • Experience leading small technical teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Proficiency with design and analysis tools including:    - SolidWorks 3D cad or similar    - MATLAB & Simulink (modeling and simulation)    - Ansys products    - Microsoft Office Suite (documentation, reporting, and project management support)
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with proven ability to balance multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required; eligibility for security clearance may be necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Lead small teams of mechanical engineers through the full product development lifecycle: concept, design, prototyping, testing, and production.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, and deliverables to ensure on-time, on-budget performance.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (electrical, thermal, systems, and manufacturing engineers) to ensure system-level integration.
  • Support program managers by tracking progress, managing risks, and reporting status to senior leadership.
  • Oversee supplier and vendor technical interactions for components and manufacturing support.
  • Design of Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and Vapor Cycle Systems (VCS)
  • Design of components that are used within ECS and VPS such as Fans, packaging of electronics equipment, system structural elements
  • Provide sustainment support for products in current production
  • Conduct mechanical analysis to ensure robustness under aerospace operating conditions.
  • Ensure designs are optimized for size, weight, power efficiency, and reliability (SWaP).
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers in Mechanical Design and Analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace and defense standards, including MIL-STD-810 and other applicable requirements.
  • Generate and maintain technical documentation, including analysis, drawings, design reports, interface control documents, test procedures and test reports.
  • Contribute to requirements generation, tracking, and traceability throughout the product lifecycle to ensure system-level compliance.
  • Support development of certification and qualification test plans to meet regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Maintain configuration control and contribute to Design Reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR).
  • Perform bench testing, environmental qualification, and system-level integration testing of ECS components and systems
  • Define and execute test plans, including functional verification, thermal cycling, electrical stress testing, vibration, shock and other tests per requirements
  • Utilize test instrumentation (Flow benches, ECS load stands for heat rejection and heat generation, data acquisition systems) for performance characterization, troubleshooting and tuning.
  • Support root-cause analysis and implement design improvements based on test results.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure successful transition from engineering prototypes to production hardware.
