About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to join our Integrated Defense Solutions team in an exciting program supporting the U.S. Navy's next generation of strategic deterrent and integrated combat systems. Serving as a Lead Engineer, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team of subject matter experts in developing and implementing a well-planned systems engineering approach to implementing a strategic vision for future operations and maintenance supporting engineering support activities. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the team enabling our Nation's technological superiority on strategic missions through development of advanced concepts and initiatives throughout the systems lifecycle. As a Lead Engineer, you will lead the technical performance in support of advanced programs under the direction, and in-collaboration with, Program Management leadership. In this role, you will provide engineering and scientific leadership in performing technical analysis, trade studies, research, development, and test and evaluation to lead system definition and realization activities, resolve issues, and make recommendations regarding enhanced capabilities. The primary objective for this role is to provide sound engineering principles and disciplined guidance to ensure successful execution of technical plans and goals while communicating effectively with internal and external management and senior-level customer representatives concerning operational decisions, technical risk identification and mitigation, definition and achievement of requirements, and overall end-to-end systems engineering process definition and oversight that results in successful definition and realization of large-scale systems. The successful candidate will have a strong background in maintenance concepts and an understanding of Navy operations in support of a complex system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field preferred, or at least 12 years proven experience leading system engineering activities across large-scale weapon systems.
  • Master of Science in Engineering and minimum of 10 years of related experience.
  • 10+ years of experience leading DoD/DOE acquisition, engineering services development and execution, and programs sustainment.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting acquisition and/or RDTE with submarines or missile systems in a technical leadership role.
  • Thorough understanding and implementation of the end-to-end System Engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience conducting science and technology research, analysis, trade studies, system integration, verification and validation, and test of complex systems.
  • Experience using risk and opportunity management processes throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams in complex systems engineering.
  • Experience with technical presentations and customer-facing activities at the leadership level.
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills with technical emphasis.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior industry experience with major defense systems such as Trident, Minuteman, or Peacekeeper.
  • Knowledge and experience working in the DoD/DOE technical services industry.
  • Experience in community networking with academia and non-defense agencies.
  • Experience and understanding of Fleet Documentation, Configuration Management, and Data Management concepts.
