About The Position

Engineering Supervisor – New Technologies Team The successful candidate will supervise the NDT New Technologies Team (NTT) within Electric Boat’s Nondestructive Test Engineering’s (NDTE) shipyard support department. This team has the opportunity to support development and implementation of new NDT technologies. The Engineering team compliments two NDT shipyard Examiner groups (Groton & Quonset Point) and is tasked with evaluating, developing, and implementing emerging NDT technologies within Electric Boat’s shipyards. The NTT group is also tasked with supporting advanced data analytics, trend analyses, and risk assessments for shipyard NDT inspection functions. The Supervisor will lead a group of engineers to complete research & development (R&D) initiatives, identify construction improvement and cost savings opportunities, support implementation of new technologies, and mitigate risk areas within the shipyard inspection disciplines. Additional responsibilities will include: Lead the continued development and implementation of currently funded NDT New Technology R&D activities (i.e. Phased-Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and Computed Radiography (CR)) Act as advisor to Electric Boat Senior Management and Executive Staff personnel with respect to high-impact R&D projects Identify additional opportunities to expand the team’s current portfolio of R&D projects and lead efforts to obtain project funding Interface with shipyard inspection supervision and management Interface with Design and Construction Support Engineering supervision and management, as appropriate, to support shipyard problem resolution evolutions Interface with government (e.g. Supervisor of Shipbuilding – Groton, NAVSEA, etc.) and supplier representatives Collaborate with NDTE Shipyard Examiner Supervisors to identify, address, and mitigate risk areas within shipyard NDT inspection departments Lead special projects required to support NDTE’s shipyard Examiner groups Manage group’s financial performance (e.g. EVMS), staffing demands, etc. Develop technical and programmatic skills of direct reports

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in an Engineering field (e.g. civil, mechanical, aerospace, chemical, naval architecture, materials science, etc.)
  • 4+ years’ professional experience working in an engineering role (post graduate)
  • Strong critical thinking skills and demonstrated ability to navigate through abstract problems
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills in order to evaluate situations, make recommendations, and take prompt and effective action
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to adapt situational leadership approach based on personality type(s) of direct reports, peers, etc.
  • Ability to provide motivational and constructive feedback to support and develop direct reportsStrong strategic thinking skills; ability to create strategic development plans for direct reports and the group overall

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Engineering/Master of Science (M.Eng./M.S) in an engineering field
  • 4+ years’ engineering experience at Electric Boat
  • Previous leadership experience (e.g. previous supervision experience, task lead experience, project management, etc.)
  • Experience interfacing with Electric Boat customers and regulators (e.g. NAVSEA)
  • Experience with construction support or quality assurance within a shipyard or manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with Military specifications (e.g. Tech Pub 1688, Tech Pub 278, Tech Pub 271 and NAVSEA 250-1500-1)
  • Data analytics capability and/or experience (e.g. statistical comparison of populations, regression analyses, probability of detection studies, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience working with NDT requirements and/or NDT personnel
