Engineering Summer Internship
About The Position
Salient Motion is building a modular motion and actuation platform that is redefining how aerospace, defense, and industrial systems are designed, built, and deployed. The company moves fast, operates with high ownership, and expects real contribution from every team member. Interns are treated like engineers, not observers. As an Engineering Intern, you will work directly with the engineering team across mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and systems level work. This role is designed for students who want real responsibility, exposure to production hardware, and experience taking ideas from concept through execution. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced startup environment, where you will be expected to learn quickly, ask good questions, and take ownership of real engineering problems.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Strong curiosity and willingness to learn across disciplines
- Comfortable working with hardware and tools in a lab or shop environment
- Ability to take direction, execute quickly, and follow through
- Clear communicator who can document work and ask thoughtful questions
Nice To Haves
- Prior hands on experience through projects, labs, clubs, internships, or personal builds is a plus
Responsibilities
- Support the design, build, and test of electro mechanical systems and subassemblies
- Assist with prototyping, assembly, and hands on lab and shop work
- Help execute engineering tests, collect data, and document results
- Support manufacturing and supplier related activities including part preparation and validation
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering and documentation processes
- Work closely with senior engineers and program leaders on active customer programs
