About The Position

Gain practical civil engineering work experience while pursuing a degree and supporting the island's water systems with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Water Resources Division! As an intern with the Water Systems Planning Branch, you will help with the planning and engineering activities needed for developing and designing water system improvements on Oahu. With the oversight of an engineer, intern duties include assisting in the collection of field pressure and flow data, visiting various BWS facilities, learning to analyze water consumption and demand, and working with computerized hydraulic models that assist with evaluating BWS water systems. Your efforts will help determine adequacy, reliability, and efficiency to ensure the Board of Water Supply's mission of safe, dependable, drinking water, now and into the future. Engineering Student Interns will be able to work up to 19 hours per week while school is in session, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. Work schedules are flexible and will be tailored to meet the student's class/exam schedule. Upon satisfactory completion of the internship program and attainment of a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, the intern will be eligible to be converted to a full-time Civil Engineer I (EN-18 - $4,339/month).

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Completion of three years of a civil engineering curriculum at a regionally-accredited college or university that offers a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Current enrollment in a four-year Civil Engineering degree-granting program at a regionally-accredited college or university on a full-time basis
  • At least a 2.0 overall scholastic average on a 4.0 scale
  • Completion of 90 college-level credits to include a minimum of 33 civil engineering (CE) credits with at least 27 upper division (300-level and above) CE credits
