About The Position

The City of Grand Junction is seeking an Operations Support Engineer Specialist to work with our wastewater division team. In this role, you will work collaboratively with our staff to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to optimize plant and collection system performance. You will be the go-to to provide operational technical support for our frontline staff. As an Operations Support Engineer Specialist, you will have a pivotal role in reducing the chemical and energy footprint of our treatment plant, conducting pilot studies to evaluate new technologies, and identifying areas for continuous improvement. You will work closely with a team of professionals who are committed to delivering high-quality wastewater treatment services to our community. We are seeking candidates with a strong engineering background, experience in wastewater treatment processes, and a passion for sustainability. The focus of the role is to evaluate and implement innovative technologies to improve plant performance and reduce our environmental impact. Experience with process optimization and troubleshooting is a plus, as well as experience with data analysis and modeling. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as you will be working closely with a team of professionals to achieve our goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or a related field OR High School Diploma or G.E.D.; supplemented by additional engineering technology coursework and six (6) years of related engineering experience.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • If a degreed engineer, must have ability to obtain an EIT certificate within 2 years of employment.
  • If not a degreed engineer, must have the ability to obtain an EIT certificate within 2 years of employment.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • This position is a safety-sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed.

Responsibilities

  • Support the operations and maintenance of the wastewater collection system and treatment plant by providing technical support through data analysis and monitoring to optimize operations.
  • Evaluate sewer system capacity throughout the wastewater service area through the deployment of continuous flow monitoring equipment.
  • Evaluate and monitor inflow and infiltration throughout the sewer system.
  • Lead and/or participate in the investigation, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and close-out of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct chemical trials to support operations.
  • Lead energy management efforts for the treatment plant.
  • Conduct pilot studies of innovative technologies.
  • Conduct life-cycle and planning studies of systems and alternatives to support operation and maintenance activities.
  • Stay abreast of innovation and emerging technologies in the wastewater industry. Represent the wastewater division at professional conferences and seminars.
