Previous applicants must reapply to be considered. The posting is for one Engineering Specialist II position that will serve as Survey Party Chief in the Aberdeen Resident Engineer’s Office. Duties include performing survey work on complex construction projects, supervising survey crews and lower-level technicians, making independent decisions, and communicating effectively with co-workers, contractor's personnel, and the general public. When contract surveying is utilized, the Survey Party Chief will be responsible for reviewing the contractor's survey submittals and providing checks of their construction layouts in the field. The employee working in this position will be exposed to high traffic volumes, work at heights over water or traffic, outside environmental hazards, confined areas, and may be required to work at night and on weekends. Ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and specification/inspection procedures. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety Toe Shoes required. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology or Survey Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using surveying equipment, instruments, levels, data collectors and GPS equipment
  • Experience with mathematical functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Experience performing highway construction stakeouts
  • Experience conducting independent, moderately complex surveying
  • Computer experience including office software and drafting software
