About The Position

This position is located in the Division 7 Project Development Unit in Guilford County. The primary purpose of this position is to develop and deliver all documentation required to advertise and let Contract Resurfacing, System Preservation, Interstate Maintenance and /or Municipal Projects. This position is responsible for the design, drafting and review of roadway plans, estimates, summary of quantities and contract proposal documents from inception through final construction plans. Plan packages will be developed in accordance with NCDOT policy, standards, specifications, ADA, MUTCD, AASHTO and NPDES requirements. This position will be responsible for preparing plan submittal packages, estimates and documentation for Raleigh Let Resurfacing projects that includes a review and revision process with the NCDOT Contracts Standards Unit requiring strong written and verbal communication skills. This position will prepare and maintain the project schedule and coordinate with other NCDOT units, governmental agencies, private engineering firms and public officials to ensure completion of plans in accordance with the Division Project Delivery Unit expectations. We are looking for an individual with advanced skills in roadway drafting/design; advanced skills in the operation of drafting instruments, use of CADD, Micro-Station, and Geo-Pak workstations; computer terminals; and calculators. Serves as a technical expert while accomplishing assigned tasks and have the ability to understand and explain roadway plan preparation; provisions; and specifications, take field information and investigation data and prepare, modify or refine roadway designs. Thorough expertise and understanding of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, material, and, equipment. Ability to train other employees, plan; coordinate; and supervise collecting data, performing calculations and plan preparation in addition to communicating effectively using verbal and nonverbal skills to express non-routine or moderately complex technical and/or program concepts.

Requirements

  • Advanced skills in roadway drafting/design
  • Advanced skills in the operation of drafting instruments, use of CADD, Micro-Station, and Geo-Pak workstations; computer terminals; and calculators.
  • Ability to understand and explain roadway plan preparation; provisions; and specifications, take field information and investigation data and prepare, modify or refine roadway designs.
  • Thorough expertise and understanding of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, material, and, equipment.
  • Ability to train other employees, plan; coordinate; and supervise collecting data, performing calculations and plan preparation in addition to communicating effectively using verbal and nonverbal skills to express non-routine or moderately complex technical and/or program concepts.
  • Associate's degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive technician experience; or
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and eight years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
