This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits, competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. Position is located in the Asheville Division Design Construct Unit (DDC). Position will assist with preparation of preliminary highway design; final highway construction plans and estimates of quantities on the more complex projects. The position requires high level skills in the preparation of design plans and through an understanding of complex design techniques and procedures. Advanced computer (CADD) proficiency is needed in Microstation, Geopak and Open Roads Designer (ORD). Position will assist the Design Engineers during the process of plan development including processing raw data, creating DTM files, creating horizontal and vertical alignments, typical sections, summaries of quantities, pavement marking plans, right of way plans, signing plans, traffic management plans, and erosion control plans. Designs conceptual maps for the Division staff to use at public hearings and as a support document for funding requests. Reviews and checks plans developed by NCDOT design technicians, private engineering firms, and other NCDOT units. Resolves minor to moderate design issues by determining possible solutions and consulting with the DDC Engineer and Assistant DDC Engineer with little to no supervision. Position will require surveying experience including taking notes, collecting field data and preparing routine reports. Provides support to the survey party in the field during preliminary location surveys, deed research and construction stakeout. This senior technician is also instrumental in the training of lower-level technicians in both design and survey techniques. Perform related duties as required.
