About the position

The Engineering Specialist, Braking Software Controls at Cummins Inc. is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of braking system application software. This role involves problem-solving, process enhancement, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and ensuring quality assurance in software builds. The specialist will lead smaller projects, coordinate with less-experienced developers, and drive improvements in work processes within the Advanced Engineering & Innovation Group.

Responsibilities

  • Investigating and resolving software issues, understanding root causes, and documenting outcomes for continuous product improvement.
  • Applying and refining software development processes and tools for efficient coding, compiling, and testing.
  • Collaborating with product and software development teams to deliver verified software features and components.
  • Making informed decisions on software requirements, architecture, design, and testing to enhance software quality and performance.
  • Delivering independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems while developing technology or product knowledge.
  • Independently leading smaller projects or complex components with accountability while developing technical knowledge.
  • Driving the development and improvement of work processes and systems within a global business unit or across business units.
  • Reviewing the work of less-experienced developers and testers to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Master's degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in designing and programming control systems for mechatronics, electro-pneumatic, or electrical systems.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in designing and development of Braking controls software.
  • Experience in use of simulation software (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Experience in programming using C, C++, and Python.
  • Proficient in vehicle dynamics plant modeling (SimScape, TruckSim, TruckMaker).
  • Prior experience in rapid prototype software development from concept to validation.
  • Prior experience in production software development (SYS-SW development lifecycle).
  • Knowledge of electronics and electro-pneumatic components, and product development processes.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations relevant to the product industry.
