Engineering Service Technician Pay: $36.00-$40.00/hr Job Summary: The Engineering Service Technician represents the company in delivering packaging machine installations, maintenance, and optimization services, including electrical work. Equipment types include conveyors, palletizers, baggers, case packers, case erectors, form-fill-seal machines (horizontal and vertical), shrink tunnels, stretch wrappers, and print-registered film wrappers. This role supports both semi-automated and fully automated/robotic systems. Additional responsibilities include research, prototype development, product inspections, and customer support. A positive attitude and strong customer service orientation are essential.

Requirements

  • Strong multi-disciplinary troubleshooting skills (electrical, mechanical, controls).
  • In-depth knowledge of high-voltage systems (480V 3-phase, 220V, 110V).
  • Proficiency with PLCs and field components (photo eyes, proximity sensors, encoders, timers).
  • Experience with servo motors, drives, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Basic understanding of control logic (e.g., ladder logic, function block diagrams).
  • Familiarity with machine timing systems and encoder synchronization.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize repair needs effectively.
  • Proven ability to respond to service calls with urgency and professionalism.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to industrial best practices.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic computer-based documentation tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 50%, including weekends and overnight stays.
  • Possession and maintenance of appropriate personal hand tools.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of industrial or packaging equipment.
  • Fluency in English (written, spoken, and reading comprehension) required.

  • College education is a plus.
  • Spanish language skills (written and verbal) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and configure packaging machinery and systems.
  • Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance and repairs on a wide range of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system issues.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers and internal teams.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Document service activities, parts usage, and customer interactions accurately.
  • Train customer personnel on equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with engineering and sales teams to resolve technical issues and enhance service quality.
  • Travel to customer sites as required, including overnight travel.
