VDOT's Staunton District is seeking a Senior Engineering Supervisor for Signal Operations to assist in the program delivery of VDOT's traffic signal control systems and serve as responsible charge engineer over signal phasing and timing plans. Specifically, you will provide project management and leadership to include planning, supervising, organizing, monitoring and directing work activities of staff and resources. You will coordinate activities with management, stakeholders, customers, and key individuals throughout VDOT. Additionally, you will assist in the development of policies, procedures and practices reflecting proactive management of the arterial transportation network. You will supervise a team of engineers and technicians, develop and optimize signal timing plans using signal optimization and simulation software such as Synchro and SimTraffic to alleviate recurring congestion and to accommodate traffic pattern changes. You will support the real-time traffic signal operations using decision support tools and technologies and various traffic management and analysis tools. You will also sign and seal any clearance interval or phase changes to traffic signals, coordinate with TOC (Transportation Operation Center), regional maintenance staff and contractors, Traffic Engineering and localities to actively manage and improve overall transportation network performance, prepare frequent management reports documenting staff task assignments, project status and unresolved issues requiring management direction and decision, and suggest and lead the implementation of improvement opportunities for the section.
