About The Position

As an Energy Storage Engineer - Senior Advisor, you will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in the design and engineering of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), supporting ENGIE's utility-scale renewable energy projects. You'll lead technical development, ensure compliance with safety and performance standards, and collaborate across departments to deliver high-quality, long-term energy solutions.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required; advanced degrees and Professional Engineering (PE) licensure bring added value to the role
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, including three (3) years in energy storage
  • Proven experience in utility-scale AC and DC-coupled energy storage systems, including medium voltage collection systems and HV substation design
  • Deep understanding of energy storage technologies, inverters, suppliers, and associated electrical studies for BESS plant integration
  • Familiarity with energy storage use cases, financial modeling tools, and SCADA/control system integration for project optimization
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards such as NFPA 855, UL9540/UL9540A, and NESC, with ability to apply them in real-world project design and execution
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid in-office work policy in the Broomfield, CO office
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 30% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license/clean driving record; for the ability to drive to site locations
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for energy storage design and engineering within the Development Engineering team, guiding technical decisions across the BESS portfolio
  • Develop and enhance technical specifications for BESS components-including battery enclosures, inverters, auxiliary power systems, and EMS/SCADA-ensuring performance, reliability, and safety
  • Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including resolving RFIs, addressing field issues, and ensuring design intent is met
  • Collaborate across internal teams-engineering, development, procurement-and manage external consultants to ensure cost-effective, timely, and technically sound project execution
  • Oversee BESS plant design activities, including coordination with Owner's Engineers to review design packages (30%, 60%, 90%, IFP/IFC), electrical studies, and vendor submittals, while advising on battery technology selection and system optimization
  • Champion environmental health and safety in all electrical engineering and design aspects of ENGIE's renewable energy projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices
  • Lead fire protection and safety code compliance reviews for BESS installations, integrating regulatory requirements into system design and execution
