PURPOSE – To work closely with the plant engineer coordinating capital and non-capital projects throughout the factory and see them through to implementation while controlling costs and impact to plant operations. Designs new equipment and modifications to existing equipment using hygienic design methods. Monitors processing and production machinery in order to continuously improve on design and operation of equipment to ensure reliability. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES – The coordination of all aspects of capital and non-capital projects in the facility. Troubleshoots and repairs all plant equipment; performs and assists in the creation of PM programs; provides facilities maintenance and production support as needed; supports plant controls, automation and programming needs; carries out equipment design and installation work; draws schematics; builds and installs electrical control cabinets for new machines or upgrades to existing machines; installs electrical conduits and wiring to machines and facilities equipment; design and install mechanical parts on machines, rebuilds and assembles packaging and other plant equipment; fabricates and welds when necessary; work with outside vendors and contractors closely on projects and plant repairs. Strong understanding and working knowledge (operation and maintenance) of packaging, processing and associated equipment in a food manufacturing plant. Efficient troubleshooting skills and repair techniques for electrical, mechanical and pneumatic equipment as they relate to processing, packaging and facilities equipment. Knowledge of boilers, air compressors, chillers and HVAC systems. Knows and understands hygienic design standards for equipment and facilities. Knowledge of machine shop equipment and activities and able to work with machinists on part designs. Understanding of electrical and pneumatic schematics. Able to understand mechanical, plumbing, processing and equipment blue prints and schematics. Effective leadership skills as demonstrated by current or past experience. Understands and follows all local and state code requirements as they relate to installations of equipment and structures. Develops training plans and able to train maintenance, operations and processing personnel on new systems and equipment. Follows all GMPs and safety guidelines. Has personal tools to perform all job duties. Has overtime and shift flexibility. Accurately fills out all required paperwork. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other Windows based programs. Strong knowledge of maintenance parts. Able to operate fork lifts and electric pallet jacks Excellent communication skills 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment High School or GED required Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Additional responsibilities of this position includes assisting in the creation of a culture of safety and health by performing work safely in accordance with all company safety procedures. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor. Occupational safety and health performance is measured in this position Ability to communicate effectively with different contractor disciplines to develop quotes and coordinate work to get projects done on time and within budget.
