As the Medium Wheel Loader Engineering Project Team Leader Engineer, you will provide project management to product development of Medium Wheel Loader (MWL) product introductions through planning, coordination, & execution. Customers have unique needs and look to Caterpillar for innovative solutions to their needs. Many times, these customs or standard solutions become a regular part of the product offerings. This position also works closely with Caterpillar Defense Products developing various solutions for the military. This role provides senior technical and program leadership for complex engineering content across current production, new product introduction (NPI), new source introduction (NSI), aftermarket, and service offerings. The position owns engineering design control, quality outcomes, and project execution while leading cross‑functional teams to deliver safe, compliant, cost‑effective, and customer‑focused solutions. The role balances deep technical judgment with strong people leadership, process discipline, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Degree requirement: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related fields.
  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Influencing through expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Team Management: Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of Medium Wheel Loader machines or other construction related product designs or development related experience.
  • Mentorship experience with other team members to increase their skills and provide successful solutions to the various projects they will be undertaking.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with Caterpillar’s upper management as needed.
  • Own complex engineering outcomes end‑to-end—technical decisions, project delivery, quality results, and people development—while balancing customer needs, factory realities, and long‑term product integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and project leadership along with hands-on machine expertise to a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Lead and perform design work for projects that lead to direct sales of machines, configurations, and attachments to customers.
  • Develop and Mentor engineers increasing their skills and providing successful solutions to the various projects they will be undertaking.
  • Develop field dealer installed and factory kits and many unique solutions (ex. machine lifting, scrap handling, special guarding, and modified implement controls as past examples)
  • Partner with Caterpillar Defense Products in support of military applications, taking ownership of the development of new attachments and offerings.
  • Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas: addressing and resolving problems as they arise.
  • Managing past designs and ensuring an assurance of supply as well as managing deviations as required.
