About The Position

WSP is seeking an Engineering Management Team Lead to support the Mining Project Delivery Service Line within the US Mining & Metals Process and Infrastructure Design (PID) business. This role leads a focused group of 5–8 engineering and project delivery managers, operating as one of several teams under the broader Service Line Lead structure. The Team Lead reports directly to the Project Delivery Service Line Lead and serves as a hands on people leader, balancing project execution, technical oversight, and team development while remaining actively engaged in client delivery. Locations: Tempe, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; or Denver, CO; Helena, MT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering consulting and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience leading small to mid sized technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery fundamentals (scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk).
  • Experience supporting or managing project financials and change management.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to balance hands on delivery with people leadership.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with HSE policies.
  • Willingness to support project specific schedules and occasional travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • Mining, metals, or heavy industrial project experience.
  • Familiarity with PMBOK based delivery frameworks, including earned value management principles.
  • Experience with MS Project and/or Primavera P6.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and support a 5–8 person engineering / project delivery team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and high performance. Embody the WSP principles of integrity, effective delivery and focus on HSSE to provide an example to the team.
  • Act as the primary day to day people leader, managing workload planning, priorities, and utilization in alignment with service line goals. This is expected to include regular one-on-one meetings with each of the team members.
  • Support the Project Delivery Service Line Lead in the development, implementation and monitoring of established WSP-wide and Mining PID project delivery standards.
  • Perform hands on project roles (Project Manager and/or Engineering Manager) as appropriate to workload and project complexity.
  • Mentor staff through goal setting, performance feedback, development planning, and engagement activities.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and workforce planning in coordination with the Service Line Lead.
  • Ensure consistent application of WSP project delivery standards, including QA/QC, safety, and project execution processes.
  • Support proposal development, including scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and resource plans.
  • Monitor delivery performance for assigned projects, including schedule, scope, and quality. This may include the WSP-defined Project Director role on certain projects.
  • Track project financial health (labor utilization, earned revenue, change management) in collaboration with Project Accounting.
  • Participate in project reviews, identifying risks, lessons learned, and improvement actions.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Partner with the Service Line Lead on succession planning, skills development, and capability gaps.
  • Support continuous improvement in delivery consistency, efficiency, and quality with engagement in the Mining, PID and Project Delivery Team strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with other Team Leads and discipline leads across the district and region.
  • Contribute to client satisfaction and relationship growth through reliable execution and technical leadership.
