About The Position

Tesla Motors is seeking an incredibly sharp, fast on their toes Engineering Program Manager to manage the product development of exterior lighting and vehicle charge port door programs; future and current. This person will coordinate over all aspects of lighting program for timing, quality and cost. This requires maintaining and adjusting overall program schedule, helping identify, raise, and support resolving concerns regarding product development, supplier selection and readiness, manufacturability, and testing (e.g., durability, reliability, compliance). Additionally, the program manager will leverage their experience to ensure the best possible value for Tesla in terms of funding requirements (tooling and ED&T) and part costs. This person will interact with multiple departments; engineering, supplier quality, manufacturing, finance, and the rest of the program management team. Work within design engineering and be responsible for understanding and communicating the latest program plan of record and latest design intent Tracking, reporting, and maintaining statuses and investigations of: Schedule, Mass & Cost, and Validation/compliance Coordinate, manage and track design POR for device transmittals, electronic requirements, and validation assets for electronics firmware teams Work with other engineering program leaders to coordinate and manage tooling development, schedule and design pedigree management to align to overall program timing Work with engineering leads on establishing, organize, and track design: targets, risks, and validation status for: Vehicle Craftsmanship, Compliance Testing, Reliability Testing, Durability Testing Work with supply chain management to understand global supplier strategy, constraints, and ED&T costs Work with suppliers to ensure latest design intent, changes, data delivery, and part requirements are well understood and aligned upon Work closely with NPI (New Product Introduction) group to establish and communicate engineering deliverables and factory constraints on new programs and running changes Ideation, creation and maintain Engineering dashboards depicting program health statuses

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of experience in hardware program management proven by successful model launch(s)
  • Understanding in mechatronics design
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to plan and lead effectively for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work in an extremely fast-paced environment and deal with multiple tasks at the same time
  • Ability to develop timing plans for complex programs, understanding of financial evaluations and product costing techniques
  • Ability to recognize risk of design, raise awareness, and apply first principles approach to finding solutions
  • Good understanding of CAD and BOM architecture and change management

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of Vehicle Lighting technology and Homologation requirements preferred
