About the Role: Fermilab is seeking an Engineering Physicist II to supports the design, development, testing, and commissioning of beamline and beam delivery systems for Fermilab’s Industrial Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) accelerator programs. This role blends physics analysis and engineering design, contributing to beam transport, beam delivery mechanisms, beamline instrumentation, and the mechanical integration of accelerator subsystems. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team advancing compact conduction-cooled electron beam accelerators for industrial applications. What your day-to-day as a Engineering Physicist II at Fermilab will look like: Leads the design, development, and testing of beamline and beam delivery systems, including vacuum components, magnets, diagnostics, and supporting mechanical structures. Develop and assess beam transport solutions for SRF electron beam accelerators, including modeling and design. Operates test facilities and beamline equipment, participating in accelerator commissioning to collect data and verify system performance. Interfaces with applications teams to incorporate beam delivery requirements—whether through focusing/defocusing systems, windows, or other delivery mechanisms—into system design. Collaborate with controls and mechanical engineering teams to ensure proper integration of beamline elements and diagnostic systems. Support maintenance of beamline and vacuum systems, including troubleshooting and performance optimization. Prepare and maintain design documentation, test procedures, and performance reports. Contribute to future system concepts and proposal development. Support procurement, fabrication, and vendor coordination for beamline components. Ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with laboratory procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.
