About The Position

The Engineering Manager at Washington State University is responsible for overseeing the management and supervision of personnel within the Department of Technical Services. This role involves coordinating the daily operations of the Instrument and Electronics Shops to support the university's instructional and research functions, ensuring quality control, and managing departmental budgets and policies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a related field, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated managerial and supervisory experience in technical or service-oriented programs.
  • Working knowledge and experience in using all common machine tools (both manual and computer controlled).
  • Experience in a business setting requiring accountability in financial reporting.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including spreadsheet, word processing, calendaring, and email.
  • Excellent technical, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in the Physical Sciences, Mathematics or Engineering Fields or an Associate Arts Degree in CNC Machining Technology.
  • Experience or education in Solidworks, Mastercam or other CAD CAM software.
  • Proven working knowledge of high-performance materials used in construction including refractory metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites.
  • Knowledge of university business policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a highly skilled staff utilizing the latest technologies in a customer-oriented environment.
  • Coordinate all projects and ensure quality control, utilizing outside vendors of services and materials as needed.
  • Administer the budget and develop and execute departmental policies to ensure conformity to University and State policies.
  • Participate in the design, fabrication, and repair of complex scientific apparatus used in research and academic programs.
