NOTE: This position is located at Nordstrom's downtown Seattle headquarters and follows a hybrid work model, with four days in the office and one remote workday each week. The Engineering Manager plays a pivotal role in driving the transformation of Nordstrom's Merchandising processes, specifically supporting our private label, Nordstrom Product Group (NPG). Managers within Technology at Nordstrom help create an inspiring workplace where talented people are empowered to drive amazing customer experiences and business results. Through broad industry and practice knowledge and hands-on technical management experience, the Manager guides a team of professionals to execute strategy and tactics that deliver desired results. As Nordstrom Product Group undergoes a technology-driven transformation, this role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and implement new ways of working, transitioning from manual, fragmented systems to a seamless, automated ecosystem. By leveraging structured data and scalable solutions, we aim to enable data-driven decisions and reduce administrative burdens for our users. As part of the engineering leadership team, you will execute a strategic capability roadmap, foster innovation and deliver measurable value to stakeholders across the organization. You will assist, guide and support your team in the planning of sprints, working with our product partners to define and prioritize intake requests, and develop road maps for your team. The ideal candidate will be a self-directed critical thinker, creative problem solver, and committed team player. You will have a bias toward action, prioritizing delivering immediate value to Nordstrom while iteratively building our program for the future. Part of your success will be achieved through forming strong partnerships with business units and technology teams to help guide them by providing vision, strategy, and balancing prioritization to effectively support technology in our environment.

  • Assist in enhancing organizational vision and strategies to support company goals
  • Create training opportunities for team to learn the latest technologies and methodologies
  • Ensure team has the tools, resources, and information they need to be successful
  • Hire capable and motivated talent/teams that can deliver swiftly and predictably, adjusting in an agile fashion to deliver solutions aligned with business needs
  • Contribute to architecture, coding, test plans, project plans, deployment planning and operations to drive excellence and lead team towards its goals
  • Employ continuous improvement methodologies across own team (e.g. quantifies impacts customer first, waste elimination, increased productivity, iterates quickly, shorten feedback loop, experience creating relevant KPIs)
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience
  • A BA/BS in Computer Science or closely related degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of Java Development
  • Solid understanding of tools like New Relic, Splunk, PagerDuty, ServiceNow, JIRA
  • 3+ years leading teams (preferred)
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management software like PTC FlexPLM (preferred)
  • Technical understanding of AWS offerings and applications built on top of AWS
