About The Position

DoorDash is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Risk and Identity Platform team. This team is at the center of our platform, responsible for building the next generation of critical infrastructure that will enable a zero-trust security posture for the entire company. You will lead a talented team of backend engineers to build a self-service Identity platform that makes it easy for all DoorDash engineers to build secure-by-default applications. As the Engineering Manager, you will own and execute a multi-year vision for identity at DoorDash. You will drive a technical roadmap that balances ironclad security and reliability with the developer velocity required to support new products and verticals. You will be a key strategic partner to Product, Security, and Privacy leadership, shaping the future of how DoorDash manages trust and access at a global scale.

Requirements

  • BS, M.S., or PhD. in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in people management leading backend teams
  • 8+ years of industry experience
  • Extensive experience as an engineer in a fast-paced, platform-focused development environment

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience with modern authentication protocols (e.g., OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML) and emerging standards (e.g., Passkeys, WebAuthn)
  • Experience designing and building authorization systems; familiarity with models like ReBAC, ABAC, or Zanzibar is a strong plus
  • Proven experience with large-scale distributed system design, performance optimization, and reliability
  • A strong product sense and the ability to partner effectively with cross-functional stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of high-performing backend engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, security, and operational excellence
  • Drive the technical strategy for our core Accounts, Authentication, and Authorization systems
  • Innovate on our authentication stack, exploring and implementing the latest standards like passkeys to enhance user security and experience at scale
  • Architect the next generation of our identity and authorization platforms, building generic, scalable systems based on modern principles like Relationship-Based Access Control (ReBAC) to enable fine-grained, temporal access control for all services
  • Own the technical vision for the end-to-end user lifecycle, ensuring data integrity, privacy, and compliance by design
  • Provide architectural guidance on complex distributed systems, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and secure for billions of daily requests
  • Partner with recruiting to build a diverse and inclusive team, attracting and retaining top engineering talent
