About The Position

We're looking for an accomplished engineering leader to bring their experience and expertise in Observability, Software Development, and Site Reliability Engineering to evolve how Splunk developers observe their services. This role empowers you to be a motivator for positive change, driving innovation and improvement in how we observe our own products and internal services. Your ability to ideate, gain buy-in, and effectively roll out changes will be pivotal in shaping the future of our engineering culture and the experience felt by each and every customer. Meet the Team The team you would lead is responsible for the platform that Splunk engineers use to implement metrics & tracing telemetry in both their customer facing and internal services. The platform is a suite of purpose built micro-services running in the cloud. The team requires a combination of Software Development and Site Reliability Engineering skills. Your peers would be Engineering Managers that lead other parts of Developer Observability Platforms as well as Technical Leads and Product Managers. Your direct team would be working hybrid/primarily remote from various locations across the US.

Requirements

  • Bachelors + 8 years of related experience, or Masters + 6 years of related experience, or PhD + 3 years of related experience.
  • At least 3 years of management experience.
  • A combination of experience in Software Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, and Observability.
  • Experience supporting customers in a SaaS environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a history of collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • US Citizen as the team has responsibilities in FedRAMP environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in crafting and delivering software as a service and working with cloud infrastructure services such as AWS EC2, S3, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Experience working with multiple cloud providers (like AWS, GCP, and Azure). Implemented multiple types of observability (logs, metrics, events, telemetry) for large-scale software deployments.
  • Experience with some combination of DevOps or SRE concepts, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, Golang, Python, Terraform, Prometheus, Puppet, Time Series Databases, Distributed computing paradigms.

  • Optional 10 paid days per full calendar year to volunteer
