About The Position

We are looking for an Engineering Manager for the Machine Learning Platform team. The team builds the foundational components for feature engineering and training/serving ML models at Coinbase. Our platform is used to combat fraud, personalize user experiences, and to analyze blockchains. You will get the opportunity to apply your skills across all aspects of building ML at scale, including stream processing, distributed training, and highly available online services.

Requirements

• 7+ yrs of industry experience as a Software Engineer, with at least 2 years managing a team of engineers.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems.
• Great sense of design, and can bring clarity to complex technical requirements.
• Obsessive focus on delivering engineers a seamless experience.
• Execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating through ambiguity and delivering results.
• Mastery of the fundamentals, capable of quickly jumping between varied technologies and still operate at a high level.
• Hands-on when needed – whether that’s writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations and leading incidents, or triaging/troubleshooting bugs.

Nice To Haves

• Experience building ML models and working with ML systems.
• Experience working on a platform team, and building developer tooling.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of talented engineers to build the next generation of our Machine Learning Platform.
• Form a deep understanding of our Machine Learning Engineers’ needs and our current capabilities and gaps.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate our vision into a tangible roadmap on a quarterly basis.
• Break down complex projects into smaller pieces and lead the iterative design and implementation process.
• Coach your reports on how to build high quality software, and take their skills to the next level.
• Work closely with our talent organization to identify and recruit exceptional engineers who align with Coinbase's culture and contribute to our products.
• Continually raise our engineering standards to maintain high-availability and low-latency on our critical ML systems.
• Collaborate across the industry and be a thought leader in the field of MLOps.

Benefits

• Target annual salary range: $218,025—$256,500 USD.
• Full time offers include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
