About the position

Canonical is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the identity team in developing high-performance and secure identity and access management solutions for various company products. This role involves overseeing the software development process, collaborating with product management, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software that can be deployed across different environments, including bare metal, public cloud, and Kubernetes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, particularly in Python and Go, and a passion for distributed systems operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a high-performance software engineering team.
• Define the technical vision for identity management products in collaboration with product management.
• Manage the team backlog and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Conduct code reviews and provide coaching to junior team members.
• Design and implement complex, distributed systems.
• Write high-quality code and tests, and document software solutions.
• Troubleshoot issues and ensure software performance and security.
• Engage with open source communities and participate in events such as hackfests and webinars.

Requirements

• Proven experience in hiring and leading software engineering teams.
• Expertise in Python and Go programming languages.
• Ability to design and implement complex distributed systems.
• Experience with container technology and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of software and infrastructure security and performance.
• Experience in designing or operating large-scale distributed systems.
