About The Position

Zynga is looking for a seasoned hands-on Engineering Manager for the Game Of Thrones Slots team whose experience can allow them to both manage engineers as a lead, as well as execute on coding tasks. We have a well-rounded, and tight-knit, distributed team with a healthy mix of engineering skill levels, and are looking to strengthen our team in tackling the challenges of running and extending a Live game. The ideal candidate will have a strong prior background as an individual contributor in engineering roles equivalent to Senior Engineers or above, with at least four years of experience managing a team. Additionally, we’re looking for someone with a minimum of eight years of experience working in the game industry. To be successful in this role you will have a passion for games, outstanding process skills, awesome people skills, a high level of integrity, great technical depth, and a proven track record of collaborating across disciplines—working seamlessly with product teams to translate vision into technical strategy and partnering with production teams to deliver high-quality experiences on time. You would have an opportunity to lead a pod of engineers on the Game of Thrones Slots team, while also driving cross-functional alignment on user-facing features (including UI / UX) and game engine systems, plus help solve challenging problems for high profile titles through collaborative problem-solving with product, production, and design stakeholders.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent education / work experience
  • 4+ Years experience as an Engineering Manager
  • 8+ Years industry experience as a Software Engineer
  • Good working knowledge of Unity, C#, PHP, and React (or similar front-end technology)
  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms and software methodologies
  • Prior game development experience (on shipped titles or live games experience)
  • Excellent communication skills and proven track record of working in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to build, manage, mentor and lead multiple teams of engineers
  • A proven track record of hiring candidates for multiple positions
  • Able to work collaboratively with engineering stakeholders including design, user experience, product and analytics teams.

Nice To Haves

  • A strong understanding of good user experience
  • Mobile development experience with a focus on iOS and/or Android
  • Experience in C/C++, or similar programming language
  • Server experience is a plus; for example, web service integration, application server performance, relational databases or data analytics.
  • Strives for perfection in the development process including planning, time and quality estimation, problem solving, and communicating development status.
  • Updates knowledge constantly. Always learning and seeking to learn
  • Experience with git

Responsibilities

  • Manage a pod of engineers on the team on a daily basis, both in their tasks as well as morale, career growth and future planning
  • Assist with feature & systems implementation (and bugs) in Unity with C#, PHP, and React
  • Manage live user facing issues as they arise
  • Help to define and scope out tasks, systems, and timelines
  • Help to review and contribute to engineering architectures
  • Help to monitor and improve engineering process
  • Continually mentor and grow engineers on the team
