About The Position

The Engineering Manager - Embedded Software leads day-to-day delivery of embedded software, firmware, and controls across multiple product lines. You will manage and mentor engineers while remaining a hands-on technical contributor - raising the bar on quality, reliability, and real-time performance. You will plan, coordinate, and clearly communicate scope, schedule, and risk across stakeholders; foster innovation and reuse; and ensure alignment to platform architecture, safety, and release readiness.

Requirements

  • B.S in Electrical, Computer, Software, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years automotive embedded software experience, including 1-3 years in technical leadership/people leadership.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems; experience with model-based development (MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Solid understanding of embedded software, controls, firmware, architecture, and communication (CAN, LIN, UDS, J1979, OBDII, etc.)
  • Proven project planning and defect tracking in Jira.
  • Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing internal and supplier interfacing projects.

  • Master s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Passionate about automotive and powertrain vehicles and systems.
  • Experience integrating software, validation, calibration, or diagnostic functions.
  • Knowledge of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) fundamentals and Engine Management Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Be an effective people manager with the ability to get hands-on in code development (code reviews, design, debugging, writing software, integration).
  • Coaches and develops team of engineers, creating an inclusive culture.
  • Own planning and execution of embedded software projects in Jira (backlog, milestones, risks, release readiness).
  • Define and drive platform strategy (architecture, reusability, scalability, interface management, model-based development)
  • Lead technical discussions/design reviews. Serve as Subject Matter Expert for embedded software, firmware, controls, and communications.
  • Run day-to-day Software Development activities: standups, dependency/risk management, unblock the team, coordinate cross-functionally.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards (coding, version control, CI, test automation, defect tracking).
  • Oversee the development, negotiation, and approval of Interface Control Documents with external suppliers, and manage supplier engagement projects.
  • Promote continuous learning and innovation - balance new technical approaches with pragmatic, production-ready solutions.
  • Collaborate in planning and development with cross-functional teams such as Systems, Validation, Hardware, and Product.
  • Manage New Product Development, Continuous Improvement, and Issue projects with urgency, accuracy, and accountability.
